MIE OLISE KJAERGAARD (38 years old. Born in Denmark. Lives in: London) Byam Shaw/Central St. Martins
I am doing my MA in Fine Art at Byam Shaw, London.
I work with abandoned places and desolate spaces. Primarily painting, but also building models of wood and cardboard and sometimes sowing.
Also trained as an architect I am interested in constructions, perspectives, scales. Often spaces left by human beeings. I find the uncannyness of discovering a place just left by somebody else both fascinating and scary, what happened ...[more]

Work of art I would like to make
FUTURE OF PLACE.
Working with abandoned places and constructions falling apart/worn out, I would like to make some big paintings of one building just completed in 2007(I will have to find a special place, and I am searching...).
I would like to do 5-7 case scenarios of how this particular building could develop in 25 years:
Maybe it gets abandoned and falls apart, maybe another constructor takes over and build on top of it, - next to it, tare it apart and squeeze something into it. It might even get removed and replaced by an ice stand....or some furniture.
Its the story of a PLACE that we know today, but has so many ways of developing in the future. Its utopias built on top of or layered into a real story, possibly inspired by science fiction films and the Uncanny.
The paintings will be same size and some of the construction will be visible from painting to painting.
I think it could be fun to make a little architectural cardboard traditional model of the original site, and let the paintings being images of mind. |
