I use various different starting points but am currently inspired by the looking at old photographs and curios at the Victoria and Albert Museum. I am attracted to the peculiar sense of loss and sadness that they arouse in me, despite not coming from my own experience. But through constant viewing the line becomes blurred as to what is my memory and what becomes a memory.

Work of art I would like to make
My intention would be to create a new body of work, though I rarely plan for a new project as ideas present themselves through the process and the source material entwining. I am always attuned to collecting images and stories that make their presence felt within the work at different stages. It can be an image I have lived with for some time that will then take on new relevance. I then draw and paint quickly as narrarives form in my head, producing many works, painting and overpainting, as the idea becomes apparent and a series reaches culmination. |
