NEW SENSATIONS 2010
The Saatchi Gallery and Channel 4 launched the New Sensations Prize in 2007 to find and support the most imaginative and talented artists graduating in the UK. The Prize is open to art students completing BA and MA courses in the UK. Each year twenty shortlisted students are chosen to present their work in an exhibition in London in October during Frieze Week. Four finalists, chosen from the 20, are each given a bursary to make a new work to present at the exhibition and they each have a 3 Minute Wonder Channel 4 film made about them which is aired on Channel 4.
The New Sensations Prize has given young graduates many opportunities
- they have sold their work, been taken on by galleries, invited to be in exhibitions and shortlisted for other prizes as a result of their work being seen in the New Sensations exhibition.
The judges for the 2010 New Sensations Prize were the artists Mat Collishaw and Rachel Whiteread; founder of Hotel Gallery in London, Darren Flook; Director of Nottingham Contemporary, Alex Farquharson; and founder of the Zoo art fair, Soraya Rodriguez.
The 2011 New Sensations Prize will be announced in May 2011.
