Work of art I would like to make
With much of the U.K’s manufacturing trades being moved overseas I would like to explore the forgotten trades which make up the rich tapestry of this countries heritage.
I was born and still live in an area of the West Midlands renowned for its glass manufacturing. The Red House Glass Cone is the areas landmark, at 100 feet high the 18th century structure is one of only four left in the U.K today.
I aim to visit the four remaining Glass Cones and photograph them and the surrounding area. I would also like to find sites where Glass Cones have now been demolished, photographing them as they are now. In juxtaposition to my own images I would like to find historical images of the sites to show how the landscape has evolved. Through the project I want to highlight the vast loss of manufacturing trades in the U.K and how these forgotten structures and trades, both gone and still standing, shape the landscape.
