The work explores the perceived ideas and expectations of objects in our daily lives, by using their properties as materials for sculpture. The objects are both domestic and industrial, and have conflicting ideological and visual languages. Through artistic interventions, such as transformation, juxtaposition and dismantling, the ideas of these objects and the expectation of sculpture and installation are explored.

Work of art I would like to make
If chosen I will make a sculptural installation out of objects and materials that populate our lives. This work will be a kind of rabbit warren made of these objects. Amongst this sculpture space, I will make smaller sculptures with objects. These smaller sculptures aspire to test the viewers re-invigorate and reconsider their understanding of objects. This will be done through, interplay, transformation juxtaposition and other artistic interventions.
In the work 'Folly', 2009, I was exploring the ideas of sculpture and installation. I wanted to make a work that had a space inside to show work. Creating a tension between sculpture and installation. In 'Folly' the viewer is presented with a large structure made of all sorts of 'cast-off' wood, mainly from furniture. Inside this structure is a pristine white gallery space, which is in direct reference to the space the structure is in.
This new work will continue the themes of my practice, to invite the viewer to re-engage with their understanding of these objects. These objects I will go and find, with emphasis on commonplace materials. |
