I'm currently making sculptures/objects that form themselves into open installations and sets. Standing, leaning, hanging, wrapped; often made of inexpensive, disposable or easily obtainable materials. There are often references to America/popular culture/packaging/art history and domestic design. I have an interest in film, post apocalypse, space travel and disappointment. I work with a specific set of rules surrounding the aesthetic decisions and often start with an initial idea or narrative, and make my work in an organic, process based way.

Work of art I would like to make
My work has a particular focus on the post apocalyptic landscape, something i see a real possibility to exist in our life times, tomorrow, or in 25 years time, it is always a fear. My work continues so circle around themes of sentimentality and time. The piece of work I hope to make next will be made of funnels, plastic sheeting, cones, hanging plastic and photos. Objects will be wrapped and repackaged. I will not know entirely what it will be like until I have finished, on the last day, but it will be reminiscent of decontamination chambers, such as in the film ET or 28 weeks later. The photos and images will be of products, of people, and from films. Primarily this will be an abstract, and formal, sculptural installation, as I think these are most complex and important decisions for an artist to consider when making an artwork. If making work were as simple as illustrating ideas, stories and concepts we would merely write them down. |
