Work of art I would like to make
The human condition always interests me, currently I am thinking a lot about the arrogance of man, how, as a species we hold a lot of importance to our existence, that we consider mankind as some sort of superior being, that as a species our place on this planet is more significant than that of others, and that as individuals we are seeking our 15 minutes of fame, the desire to be noticed no matter what the cost.
We see this in popular culture, so called talent shows and reality television, the contestants selling themselves, and often their dignity for their time in the media spotlight, while the audience looks on, living their lives by proxy revelling in the misfortunes of the misguided contestants.
I would like to create a piece of work that reflects this, perhaps an installation where the viewer, by their presence becomes part of the scene, seemingly overseen by others, perhaps feeling the discomfort and embarrassment.
Perhaps a room with a central sculpture that the viewer interacts with, but surrounded by the audience, apparently watching, as though in some Gladiatorial arena
