My work is big, very big and gestural. When I have completed a painting, I am physically and emotionally drained. My emotion and energy are transferred onto the canvas. My work is based on a series of photographs, taken at night, of a fountain in my sisters' garden. I have tried to capture the spirit of a jet of water as it erupts into the air.

Work of art I would like to make
The Cascade paintings are the start of a series of paintings based on the four elements. Water, Earth, Wind and Fire. These elements are part of our world, something we cannot control when they are at their most tempestuous. We try to control them but they are ferocious and savage. Fire, storms and water, the cause of natural disasters, modern technology and buildings are often left in pieces when the earth exerts her power. I aim to portray these elements in a new way looking for inspiration from photographs of fires at night and I plan to take aerial photos of the lights at night from above. The end result will be a series of paintings for each element.
In the future will we be able to leash the earths power to prevent natural disasters occuring? I don't know. As a mature student I may not be around to see it if we do and in a way I'm glad. Progress is good but so is a bit of wild freedom. |
