Oliver Beer (27 years old. Born in United Kingdom. Lives in: Edenbridge) Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art
I studied music before reading Fine Art, and I often work with musicians and composers when making films. A recent series used a choir to stimulate architectural spaces to sing like a wine glass sings at the tip of a finger. Other films are structured around narrative, and are also sensitive to sound and/or music.

Work of art I would like to make
I would like to make a new film which looks at occurrences of theatre for the sake of education. When new teachers are being trained, they have to give an examined lesson to their trainers, who play the parts of the students; a middle aged man might act the part of a difficult eleven-year old child, a 30-year old woman might play an eight-year old with a tummy-ache. The trainee teacher has to deliver their lesson, whether design-technology, music or sex education, against the disruption of these performing adults, who are both child and examiner.
The film would be structured around the lesson plan, and would recreate the training process; the camera would pick up at close range the stress of the trainee and the strange, childish role-play of the examiners, while also creating a narrative through the content of the lesson. |
