I make ephemeral structures and installations that explore themes of multiplicity and fragility. My work is process-led and focuses on the innate characteristics of materials. I typically use multiple readymade objects or expanses of a single material and apply a repetitive process to them, allowing the inherent qualities of the materials and the space in which the installation is shown, to play a part in determining the form ...[more]

Work of art I would like to make
I would like to build a structure from densely-clustered cocktails sticks. The form of the work would largely be determined by the space in which it is made or displayed but I would like to build either a wall or perhaps several pillars. Each cocktail stick would be individually dipped in red and reddish-black latex and allowed to dry. This process would make them sticky and, when randomly piled, they would knit together creating a kind of crosshatch effect. If I were to build a wall it would reach above head height and may span the width of the gallery, while the pillars would extend from floor to ceiling. I would expect the work to have a slightly unnerving effect due to the spiky nature of the sticks and the colours used. The crosshatch effect would create interesting shadows which would fall over the viewer as they walked around the wall or pillars. |
