Amy Harrison (22 years old. Born in United Kingdom. Lives in: Cardiff) Cardiff School of Art & Design (UWIC)
My name is Amy Harrison, I am a 21 year old painter who has recently graduated from Cardiff School of Art and Design. From an early age I have always enjoyed being creative, I feel that I have been given a talent that I wish to pursue. The BA(Hons) Fine Art course has been a great opportunity for me to focus on my work, and realise more about myself. During my years at university I fell in love with painting the figure. Thanks to guidance from tutors and inspiration from friends and other students, I eventually found a painting technique that both scared and excited me. Pushed by tutors to take bigger risks in painting, I learnt the most and produced what I consider better paintings. Without being encouraged to be analytical of my own work, and to examine my own agendas before painting, I would not have progressed to make paintings I felt I could be proud of.
My work for the degree show plays with pornography seeking to introduce sexuality and seduction into contemporary painting, and asks questions about the desire to display oneself. My work represents modern day pin-up girls, the sorts of subjects found in soft porn and glossy magazines, bodies depicted as objects of fetishist desire. The female nude is presented as a commodity, the embodiment of male fantasy.
The second theme within my work is dedicated to the beauty of the human orgasm Beautiful Agony featuring head shots of facial gestures made when experiencing an orgasm. The moist fluid handling of these paintings paradoxically evoke the pleasure experienced.

Work of art I would like to make
If i was one of the successful candidates, of the 4 New Sensations, I would like to continue with a similar route of enquiry, as I have only just started to develop as an artist. whilst experimenting with different sizes including bill board size and various materials. I wish to make the work more controversial as I have only just touched on this theme. |
