In my works I do not wish to depict the personality or character of the model.
The identities of the girls in the paintings are irrelevant. The image instead is a
tool to probe into the question of reality and perception. 'The image creates, includes, and brings together in a single spatial and temporal plane its creator, the object represented, and the observer over the course of time' Giovanni Chiaromonte.
Of significance also is my fascination with Time. Time exists not only as a
chronological, linear factor but as a movement within psychological space. I wish to create a new reality through painting which encapsulates a sense of temporality. Found photographs and those of my models are used only as a visual trigger. The figure is transformed through the act of painting.
The image for me is the all important factor in that within its stillness it contains qualities of movement and transiency. 'The image is tied to the concrete and the material, yet reaches out along mysterious paths to regions beyond the spirit...' Andrei Tarkovsky.

I will continue my work relating to time issues and its exploration into the image making process through a new series of paintings.
