Work of art I would like to make


As the worlds obsession with ‘beauty’ increases its hold on society, my concern is for younger generations who are being brought up surrounded by these manipulated, false images.
My work would respond to the inevitable increase in digitally enhancing images that surround us, in particular fashion photography and fashion adverts.
We are bombarded by images of women with flawless skin, straight white teeth, incredibly silky hair, making the consumer feel aesthetically inadequate.
To amplify my concerns I envisage a series of five portrait paintings. Ideally the paintings would hang in a room so the portraits face each other and start to create relationships. This intense environment may then replicate to the viewer the digitally corrupt society we live in
My process of using Photoshop to manipulate my design ideas ties in appropriately with my new theme. Photoshop allows me as an artist to experiment and push images to new levels. I will design this series with contrasting areas and layers. For example one area will have pixilation on the face which I can achieve on Photoshop and then take onto canvas. The pixilation would reflect the breakdown of the perfect being.
I would continue to use oil paints to paint the portrait. Oil mixes effectively and a flawless effect can be achieved. Areas that I leave open to breathe and for interpretation will be spray painted. This medium next to the oil paint creates a dynamic relationship. Areas that resemble a graffiti style would represent the breakdown of societies ideal.
