Work of art I would like to make
Despite the fact geneticists can now map the entire human genome, this provides information based on purely mechanistic principles. Over the next 25 years, will scientists be able to define consciousness in the same reductive and mechanistic manner and if so, will this, like genes, become an interchangeable commodity? If selected I would produce an artwork expressing the sense of mystery we are still blessed with. I believe art should encourage people to connect and to ask universal questions about what is happening in the world. It is difficult to say how my artwork would look but I would employ the same working processes as I have done for my degree show. This means using laboratory imagery and equipment along with human and animal elements. My images have been combined into a moving projected piece with constructed sound. Whatever I produce, the aim is to prompt questions. |
