My current work explores the way meaning can be generated through a photograph and the value of the knowledge it can provide. The photographic act is an ostensive act; it draws attention to something in the world, however the meaning of this gesture is not necessarily clear. Through the placement or sequencing of photographs there is the possibility for communication, yet individual photographs can still be viewed plainly for what they are; the trace of light falling on a surface recording colours, shapes and forms focused through a lens; void of a singular universal meaning.
Through utilizing photographic genres, the still life, landscape and staged photograph, the work explores our mediated experience of the countryside and nature. Which can act as a demonstration of the way experience is so often mediated through the photographic image as a means of creating, as well as recording experience.
The overall installation of my degree show aims at minimalism, allowing the subtle geometric forms and specific colours to have an initial visual and physical impact. Both the lightboxes and the projections engage with the architectural space, the varying heights creating a horizon line around the room.

Work of art I would like to make
I would like to continue working with the photographic representation of landscapes and open spaces within London. I would like to use this opportunity to carry on investigating the way photography can create as well as record experiences. Sequences, systems and repetition are all things I would like to continue working with through my photography. |
