My work addresses the negotiation of my childhood gender identity, and the uncomfortable discovery of myself as a male. Having four older sisters, there were activities that included them but not me, and I didn't understand why. I couldn't wear dresses, wear clips in my hair, use make up, go to the same toilets or play with the same toys. Through producing photographic montages composed of hundreds of images, I unravel my discovery as a sexual male through using my parents and myself in restaged moments in an awkward collision of adult and childhood fantasies.

Work of art I would like to make
My intended work shall continue to reference past religious paintings of the Renaissance and the autonomous world of my sisters, this time combined with expected futures of family roles. Such anticipations shall be sourced from filmed interviews of my parent’s ideals, collided with my fantasies rebelling against such expectations.
These films are not intended to be exhibited as they shall inspire the making of props alongside my mother, drawing upon activities she once taught my sisters. These shall be used to produce pre-staged moments in a photomontage triptych of expectation and sabotage.
Through my mother’s teaching of activities intended for my sisters, combined with controlling my parents in creating the photographs, the process I go through in making the work shall undermine its content and confining expectations that inspire it.
