Making sculptures and drawings, my work uses a flirtatious abstract language that hovers between the two- and three-dimensional. Lowly, everyday materials are transformed beyond their humble beginnings into artworks by straightforward processes, which completely alter their meaning. For example a simple sheet of paper becomes part-animal, part-furniture alluding to a grandmother’s sofa by simply being painted and shredded.

Work of art I would like to make
For this show I would continue to extend my practice looking towards interior decorating for inspiration. I have been interested in the design and layout of living spaces for sometime; I find them a sculptural space, one where the viewer has a very specific relationship to the scale and functionality of the objects within the room. Drawing on these ideas, I would make sculptures that sit on an unusually shaped rug. The rug would be a solid figure of eight shape creating a space in which two sculptures are held. Using my techniques that combine everyday objects with art materials I would make sculptures sit on the rug, exploring the line between two- and three-dimensions. As a whole, the work would combine everyday design elements with fine art processes and techniques, creating a flirtatious and confusing object that hovers between art and design and painting and sculpture. |
