Work of art I would like to make
I propose to be committed in developing my current practice and area of research, and create a substantial body of work that encourages the arts audience to become active co-creators in the meaning making methodology of an arts experience. As my current area of research experiments with questions surrounding the process of meaning making methodologies within post-modern thought, the body of work will take the form of a sensory installation encouraging the arts audience to work together in the attempt to construct meaning or understanding. As post-modern thought does not have much confidence in the possibility of attaining an understanding of an objective or subjective truth the activity that takes place in the attempt to construct meaning, while only using the methodologies we have learned becomes a complex entangled web of constructed signifiers.
To facilitate this experience I plan to use the method of binaural recording. Binaural recording is a method of recording sound accurately, and as close as possible to the way our ears pick up sound, giving the ability to pinpoint the direction and distance of the sound recorded. By using this it facilitates a physical, spatial and schizophrenic experience for the arts audience.
I foresee the environment taking the form of a very simplistic table and chairs. Each seat with its own set of headphones, a notebook and a pen, each participator receiving a segment of the information, encouraging them to work together in the attempt and hope of constructing a sense of meaning, understanding or knowing.
