Richard Cook
(23 years old. Born in United Kingdom. Lives in: Edinburgh)
Edinburgh College of Art

An understated authorship, a nonchalant awkwardness, a proud nudity, and an overall implausibility that bring together space, weight, and material in ways that seem happily accidental. What may appear as the casual and passive, I attempt to bring out hidden or overlooked details, allowing surprisingly complex moments of explanation. The attention to placement and accompanying images and text will introduce the viewer into the ...[more]

Work of art I would like to make

I am already beginning to explore my transition from education into 'the real world' which will present the opportunity for the absolution of institutional sin, allowing me to venture into the concrete of reality and to approach my work without precedent conditions.

I would ultimately create a series of works influenced by this transition, whether collage or sculptural, and highlight this movement.

Collage work has been interesting for me lately to change a specific existence (a use), and explicitly re-use this existence. This will work well with my exploration into 'absolution of institutional sin' and perhaps photo collages of 'before' and 'afters', might work well in the space.

Consideration of the space given would be fundamental to my work produced for New Sensations, so I'd have to visit the space in order to understand what is needed. I am not interested in producing a 'concluded' view of something, as I want to give as much as I can to the audience to understand my thinking and my intention, and thus a raw and initial aesthetic will present itself.
