Work of art I would like to make
Travelling is a huge passion of mine, both around London and further a field. It is these trips that provide me with exciting structural ideas and the chance to collect discarded or disowned objects that are often overlooked.
This summer I am using the Dolby art scholarship for travel I was awarded to fund a trip around Romania and Ireland to make a film about Gypsies. I am fascinated by their culture and as I am taking my van, will no doubt find many exciting objects and new visual experiences to evolve new work from.
I focus on discarded and overlooked materials that are caught between production and decomposition. It is finding an aesthetic in these disposed of and unloved items, which is important to me. Integral to my work is the proximity of unexpected items that are then set next to one another and the exciting relationships and juxtapositions of these new orders. Using gypsy culture, especially their love of horses, scrap metal collecting and homes as a starting resource point i feel that after the trip i will have an exciting and more informed direction for my work, and lots of new materials to work with.
