The first exhibition will be at the National Trust’s Newark Park, an unusual and atmospheric Tudor hunting lodge set in rural south Gloucestershire which houses an eclectic collection of art and objects within its architecture and is set in a dramatic landscape. The second exhibition will be held in Cheltenham (full venue details to be announced shortly). This area holds a nationally important collection of the Arts & Crafts Movement in Britain. the open west is an annual open competition and exhibition inviting work from national and international artists practising contemporary and conceptual art. Work submitted can include painting, installation, film and sound, textile, photography, ceramics, print, drawing, performance, sculpture, glass, metal and plastics. Continuing an exploration of fine art forms, the selection of work for 2013 will also examine the skills of the contemporary maker and include experimental and digital technologies together with traditional processes. Two distinctly different environments will allow the open west to curate an exhibition of two parts, exploring the crossover of disciplines between fine art and craft; curating work in surprising spaces to create new contextual layers. Great Ode is a new publication in the form of an Artist's Book working around the idea of the book as a 'sculpture' to signify a landmark in our times of how we process, view, experience and analyse information. The book will feature a variety of works which reflect upon our changing perceptions of contemporary society and how we are affected by its processes, requirements, how we adapt to its fast-moving cycles and the problems we have with the structure of our society. The idea is to have a glance which is both experimental and subversive, at times satirical, anarchic, or even hopeful. This isn't to be implied in one work, but in the collaboration of varied artworks, visual explorations, essays, notes, critiscms, proposals for alternative living and photographs (by different artists and creators). The book will be predominantly visually based, with strong emphasis on visual content and content which can be expressive and clear in its intention. In terms of visual content this can extend to: photographs, illustrations, mixed media, sculpture, poems, writings/essays theoretical ideas concepts 'diy plans' design transcripts and all manner of ways of communicating a certain idea, critiscm or antagonism towards our current place in the world and sense of place in time. We aim to have works which can propose alternative approaches to society, can expose hidden subcultures and expose uncomfortable truths about our modern world, can approach marginalised groups, and comment on ways in which the contemporary world affects us for better or worse. The idea is to create an alternative idealised future through considering and exposing the realities which affect us most in the current age, to try and deal with those issues through a visual medium. Open is a £1 million initiative by Artangel and BBC Radio 4 for new site-specific commissions across the UK. It's a call for artists working in any media to share proposals for ground-breaking projects that will transform the UK's cultural landscape. Previous Artangel Open calls have led to some of the most iconic projects of the past decade – Michael Landy’s Break Down, the very public destruction in a department store on Oxford Street of absolutely everything the artist owned; Jeremy Deller's The Battle of Orgreave in South Yorkshire, the re-enactment of a dark day in the conflict between police and colliery workers during the 1984 Miners' Strike; Roger Hiorns's Seizure, the brilliant blue crystal council flat in South London; and Clio Barnard's award-winning film The Arbor shot on the Buttershaw Estate in Bradford. In partnership with Pool Hey Farm (West Lancashire), the Roadside Museum is now inviting submissions from artists who are interested in experimenting with the aging process of their work through biological and chemical decay. Artworks will be buried unprotected in a field at a depth of up to 6 feet, subjected to the elements and developed from the process of interment. The duration of the project will be 12 months from May 2013. Works would need to be in the ground for the entire time whilst the land continues to be farmed. In May 2014, works will be unearthed, documented and sent for analysis by people gathered from a range of professional backgrounds with the additional aim of staging a public exhibition. The analysis and documentation of the artworks and the project itself will be compiled in a limited edition booklet a copy of which each artist will receive. Works would then be returned to artists. Appreciating Mussolini's commitment to reduced taxation and union busting, wealthy business owners granted him their support before realizing he aimed to personally control Italy's various industries by means of a dictatorship. As the self-declared undisputed head of state, Mussolini detested bourgeois luxury and ultimately dismissed the authority of business owners as subordinate to his own. Business owners in Germany experienced similar difficulty controlling Adolph Hitler, the dictator they funded as a way to control striking workers by proxy. Through the course of events associated with World War II, Mussolini's Fascism and Hitler's Nazism were dismantled. Around this time, wealthy business owners and other members of the global elite figured something out: why buy social control via individual, charismatic leaders when you can buy the whole system instead? Representing what became known as the Austrian school of Economics, Friedrich Hayek and Ludwig von Mises co-organized a meeting in 1947 at Hôtel du Parc, near Vevey, Switzerland, that established a European economic federation called The Mont Pelerin Society. Designed to promote aggressive liberal/anti-socialist ideology through a decentralized network, the Society facilitated the development and funding of think tanks, policy makers, and lobby groups, as well as the grooming of politicians and backing of favourable candidates. Bench2Bench is the hottest new project by Rohan Samuel and starts August 1st 2013. Bench2Bench plans to raise in excess of £2000 for Children with Cancer and is looking for companies or organisations to sponsor money for the event. My name is Rohan Samuel and I am a local London based artist. Currently signed by Debut Contemporary Gallery in Notting Hill I am looking for your company to be involved in my project ‘Bench2Bench’, an artist charity walk for Children with Cancer UK. The walk starts in the center of London situated in Charring Cross, outside the National Gallery, and ends at the furthest bench in England in Berwick-upon-Tweed and will take place on the 1st of August and begin a 430 mile walk it is estimated to be completed around mid September. The design of the walk is to bring together the concept of art for all with the concept of giving/helping. Ridding the idea of art being for the gallery and bringing in a idea of art being for all regardless of a persons creative nature and bringing into a light that brings people together creatively. The idea of the project is to walk form one bench to another, along the way I will be making art work using whatever I can find from papers and card in my back pack to branches and leaves in the countryside, I will not be staying in any hotels or hostels I will be camping outside throughout, the works made will be selling to raise money for food and water to survive and the excess will go towards the charity this will be added to the start off money I will initially have of £200, the only way I can increase this is by selling art work. No other source of money shall be included in this by any means as the one previously stated.
