Founded in 2000, the Foundation offers scholarships to outstanding students with financial need, including a Gradate Scholarship Program that places special emphasis on finding and supporting such students in the arts. The Craft Research Fund seeks to advance scholarship in the field of craft by supporting high-quality research undertaken by university faculty, graduate students, museum curators, artists and independent scholars. The Fund supports research that demonstrates the relevance of craft within contemporary culture. Its aim is to increase the number of creative scholars and practitioners interested in pursuing craft studies and research.

The Caroline and Erwin Swann Foundation for Caricature and Cartoon is administered by the Library of Congress. The Swann Foundation awards one fellowship annually (with a stipend of $15,000) to assist ongoing scholarly research and writing projects in the field of caricature and cartoon. To be eligible, one must be a candidate for an M.A. or Ph.D. degree in a university in the United States, Canada, or Mexico and working toward the completion of a dissertation or thesis for that degree, or be engaged in postgraduate research within three years of receiving an M.A. or Ph.D. from an institution in one of those countries. Although research must be in the field of caricature and cartoon, there is no limitation regrading the place or time period covered. Since the Foundation encourages research in a variety of academic disciplines, there is no restrictipon upon the university department in which this work is being done, provided the subject pertains to caricature or cartoon art. The Endowments and Prizes Section of the Canada Council for the Arts administers over 70 annual prizes, fellowships and awards to Canadian artists and scholars for their contributions to the arts, humanities and sciences in Canada. Many of these prizes are privately endowed and are given in perpetuity in memory of the donors. Others, such as the Governor General's Literary Awards are both funded and administered by the Canada Council for the Arts.

The Arch and Bruce Brown Foundation awards yearly grants to writers in three rotating disciplines: Theatre, Full-length Fiction, and Short Stories. All works submitted must present the gay and lesbian lifestyle in a positive manner and be based on, or inspired by, a historic person, culture, event, or work of art. Writing contests close on November 30th of each year. Grants are $1000 and are not limited to a single winner. The Foundation also offers grants (usually of $1000) to production companies to offset expenses in producing gay-positive theatrical works based on history. Applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree and complete the applications in full. Grants are intended for a graduate degree program or a study course not part of a graduate degree program or an extensive in-depth project which would enable the applicant to grow professionally. Alpha Delta Kappa members are eligible to apply. Applicants shall not have received an International scholarship or grant from Alpha Delta Kappa within the past two years. The Thatcher Hoffman Smith Prize, established in 2002, is a biennial prize honoring the creative process, Creativity in Motion. This prize celebrates a visionary creative work in process, recognizing the power of original thought and expression in possibly enriching the world around us.
