JERWOOD SCULPTURE PRIZE 2008 CALL FOR ENTRIES

THE MOST SIGNIFICANT PRIZE FOR OUTDOOR SCULPTURE IN THE UK IS NOW CALLING FOR SUBMISSIONS Since its creation in 2001, the Jerwood Sculpture Prize has become one of the most significant commissioning prizes for sculpture in the UK. Every two years the Jerwood Charitable Foundation awards one artist £25,000 to create a piece of outdoor sculpture which becomes part of the Jerwood Sculpture collection at Ragley, Warwickshire. In previous years, sculptures by Benedict Carpenter, Gereon Krebber, Judith Dean and last year’s winner, Juliet Haysom, have been added to the Jerwood Sculpture collection. The prize is structured to promote and reward emerging talent in the creation of outdoor sculpture. It is open to anyone within fifteen years of graduation, who is either a British citizen, a citizen of the Irish Republic, or a sculptor who has lived or worked in the UK for at least the last three years. Artists are invited to submit drawings, written statements and plans for their proposed commission, along with their current CV. From open submission entry a shortlist of eight artists will be drawn up. These artists will then be commissioned to develop their proposal and to produce a maquette. The commissioned maquettes will go on display at the Jerwood Space in April 2009 and during the exhibition the winner will be announced. Established in 1977, the Jerwood Foundation funds and sponsors the arts, education, design and conservation, among 'other areas of human endeavour and excellence'. The Jerwood Space was created to support the work of young artists in theatre, dance and contemporary art and provides facilities for this near Bankside in London. The Space includes the Jerwood Gallery. The website provides information on the Foundation, the Space, the Gallery and the Foundation's arts awards, as well as documentation on successful projects.

The website has details of all the Jerwood visual arts prizes in sculpture, applied arts, contemporary painting, drawing, and photography. For each prize there is a page giving details of the shortlist and winners, the selection panel, the exhibition, and often also a full-text essay from the exhibition catalogue. There are also contact details specific to each prize. There is an additional page of details about the Jerwood Artists' Platform, aimed at 'talented visual artists' in need of 'their first London one-person exhibition'.

The trust funds projects in New England in the areas of health, education, the natural and urban environment, and philanthropy. The trustees are interested particularly in projects that primarily benefit underserved populations and disadvantaged communities in New England, as well as projects that focus on prevention rather than remediation. 5th Annual Juried Art Exhibition: The Rosenzweig Gallery in conjunction with the Jewish Heritage Foundation of North Carolina announce a call for submissions. The theme for the show is 'If I Forget Thee...' The call for submissions can be found and downloaded at the JHFNC website www.jhfnc.org. The juror will be Ann Roth, director of the Weems Art Gallery at Meredith College and an art teacher at Meredith College. She has also been a juror for Artspace, the Visual Art Exchange, Raleigh Arts Commission and Lazy Daze. The deadline for submissions is February 22, 2007. Note: Artists whose work has been accepted will be notified by February 22, 2007. The opening reception is March 18.

Journeys Through Cancer: Art of Healing and Hope

Cancer patients, survivors and caregivers of all ages are invited to submit original art works about their journeys through the cancer experience. Entries of two-dimensional artwork are eligible, including painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and mixed media. Maximum dimensions for framed artwork are 42' high x 42' wide x 6' deep. The two entry categories are youth (ages 17 and younger) and adult (ages 18 and older).
