Polli Talu (literally, 'Polly's Farm') is a traditional Estonian farm complex situated near the Baltic Sea, 150 km southwest of the capital city Tallinn, not far from the port town of Virtsu. It consists of five log buildings with thatched roofs made from locally-harvested reeds. The structures date back to the beginning of the 20th century. Marika Blossfeldt, an Estonian who had left her native country as a very young child to live in Germany and, later, New York City, welcomed the opportunity to purchase Polli's Farm in 1995. Her vision was to transform the complex into an international arts center. The opportunity to purchase the property and realize her vision arose only after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. In 1998 Polli Talu Arts Center was registered as a non-profit organization in Estonia. 1999 marked the first season of artistic and educational activities at Polli Talu Arts Center.

What: 2009 Where: Hobart, Tasmania Deadline: Sept 1st, 2008 Arts Tasmania, a division of the Department of Environment, Parks, Heritage and the Arts, implements Government arts policies and programs, administers funding programs for the arts and museums sector, operates the Art for Public Buildings Scheme, provides the Secretariat to the Tasmanian Arts Advisory Board and liaises with Commonwealth and State agencies on arts matters. The Cultural Exchange residency program provides opportunities for artists to explore Tasmania's remote and unique natural environment. The international residency program commenced in 2006 however residencies have been available for Tasmanian artists since 1997. Applications are now open for 2009 residencies. The program forms part of a joint initiative between Arts Tasmania, the Parks and Wildlife Service Tasmania, the Port Arthur Historic Site, King Island Council, Launceston City Council, Salamanca Arts Centre and Tasmanian Writers' Centre. Where: Skagaströnd, Iceland When: 2008 / 2009 Deadline: open call Nes artist residency is a new residency in Skagaströnd in North-Western Iceland, which is starting up this year with the first visitors next June. The studios are in a former fishing plant, that will now be the workplace for artists of all media, both local and international. The living quarters are in row- and apartment houses owned by the town where artists and their families will stay. The first application deadline was on April 15th, and we had quite a few applications. As we still have some openings at Nes this year, particularily at the end of the year, we have decided to place an “open call” on applications for now, or until our next deadline of September 2008. The residency is for whole months from 1-6 months of duration.The residence fee is from 400-650 €. Included in the fee is a single or double room, with shared kitchen and bathing facilities (3-4 people in each apartment), a studio space, one set of bed linens and a towel. Residency Opportunity: The Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach, FL offers residencies and opportunities to work with master artists in residence.
