Drury University offers bright, achieving students a commitment to personalized education and diversity. The Pool Art Center, a 23,000 sq. ft. former Coca-Cola warehouse located on the southeast edge of the campus, serves as the hub for the Art and Art History department.

The building was extensively refurbished to produce a near-custom designed space for art education. It includes two galleries; a teaching theatre equipped with the latest technology; faculty offices; and studios and teaching spaces to support student painters, drawers, photographers, graphic and digital designers, ceramic artists and sculptors.

Our Aims

Drury is a small, liberal arts university that has held to its core values since its establishment in 1873. The Department of Art & Art History offers:
1. Introductory courses designed to develop appreciation and lead to increased understanding of the fine arts and their contribution to the cultural life of society.

2. Advanced courses leading to an academic major or minor in art history, design arts, or fine arts.

3. Special programs formulated to prepare the student for graduate study or a professional career.

4. Support courses leading to a professional degree in architecture and state certification in art education.

The three majors offered by the Department of Art & Art History lead to a bachelor of arts degree, as well as the Visual Communication Special Program.

Art History Major
The art history major is for students who wish to develop an appreciation and increased understanding of the various roles that the visual arts have played in different historical contexts from the prehistoric period to the present.
