If you are passionate about art, craft or design, if you are seeking a career in the arts or design industry or if you are wanting to develop your research skills and your capacity to creatively express yourself, you should consider a university program at the South Australian School of Art (SASA), one of Australia's long-established art schools.
By choosing to study at the South Australian School of Art you are committing to programs designed to equip you with high level creative problem solving skills balanced with highly developed practical skills (see Studio specialisations). We offer you a range of undergraduate, honours and postgraduate programs, including media-based studio and art and design history and theory programs designed to ensure maximum opportunity for creative development. The School boasts excellent studio facilities and the State's most comprehensive art, craft and design library, housed in new, purpose built buildings in the heart of the cultural precinct in Adelaide's west end at the University of South Australia's City West Campus.

| Location and Getting there |
| The South Australian School of Art is located at the City West Campus, West End precinct, in distinctive purpose built spaces, including an exhibition space. The buildings were designed by architect John Wardle in partnership with Hassells.

The South Australian School of Art is located at City West Campus. The School comes under the Division of Education, Arts and Social Sciences.
The South Australian School of Art, University of South Australia, has a long and proud history. It is one of the oldest art schools in Australia, commencing in 1856. For many years it was known as the School of Design, then the School of Arts and Crafts, and was housed in the former Exhibition Building on North Terrace in Adelaide. The School has a rich and innovative history to celebrate. In 1892, it was the first in Australia to appoint a woman teacher of painting, Elizabeth Armstrong. She remained in that position until 1928 when she retired. Under the leadership of Harry Pelling Gill and then Lawrence H Howie, Armstrong became one of many women on the staff. By the 1920s, and in contrast to the trend elsewhere in Australia, the majority of staff were women, including Jessamine Buxton, Ethel Barringer and Marie Tuck. In the 1930s and '40s, other women teachers, including Mary P Harris, Dorrit Black and Jackie Hick, were instrumental in introducing students to modernism.

| Information For Undergraduates |
The South Australian School of Art offers undergraduate degrees with the greatest diversity of media areas available in any tertiary art institution in the state, at a time when many tertiary art institutions throughout Australia have reduced the range of studio options they are able to offer. Students not only have the opportunity to specialise in a particular area, but are also able to include courses from a wide range offered within the School as part of their award.

| Information For Postgraduates |
The South Australian School of Art offers both coursework and research postgraduate programs in a full range of studio specialisations, including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, textiles, sculpture & installation, glass, ceramics, jewellery & metal, visual communications and contemporary art & design history and theory. Students in both coursework and research degree program engage in a challenging and supportive and dynamic learning environment which encourages critical debate and creative innovation, with results measured against exacting professional standards.
The school's postgraduate programs are based at City West campus, where you will find studios, a gallery, meeting and office spaces dedicated to our postgraduate students. We are located near the Lion Arts Centre which houses JamFactory Contemporary Craft & Design, Experimental Art Foundation and Dark Horsey Bookshop, Media Resource Centre, Mercury and Iris Cinemas, Music House, Nexus Multi-cultural Arts Centre and Parallelo Theatre. Several of these are our industry partners.

Kaurna (K) Building
Kaurna Building is shared between the South Australian School of Art and the Louis Laybourne Smith School of Architecture and Design. The ground floor (or Level 2) houses the School of Art Gallery and Foundation Studios for Visual Art and Visual Communication students and the Architecture Archive. The School of Art and School of Architecture administration and staff office enclaves are on the floor above, Level 3.
The Visual Communication studios, Visual Communications Consultancy and staff offices are on the next floor, level 4, along with the School of Art and Architecture's joint research enclave for staff and postgraduate students.
Dorrit Black (DB) Building
The South Australian School of Art workshop is located on the ground floor (Level 3) along with the Louis Laybourne Smith School of Architecture and Design workshop. The Sculpture and Installation and Glass and Ceramics staff offices and studios are co-located on Level 4, with the Textiles, Printmaking, Jewellery and Metal staff offices and studios on Level 5.
