Postgraduate Programs:
CSU offers two types of postgraduate programs: Research Higher Degrees and Coursework Postgraduate programs. All of our postgraduate programs are available by distance or on campus in full time and part time mode, and we take applications at any time, for entry in either semester.
Master of Arts Practice – With Specialisations
The Master of Arts Practice (With Specialisations) is a coursework Masters which provides students with the opportunity to undertake a supervised project in a specialised area of Fine Arts, Performance, Design, Photography, Theatre, Television, Sound, Text, Hybrid Arts or New Media. It encompasses a wide range of creative practices, whose outcomes can be exhibited, published, produced, performed or presented. The course comprises a supervised self-devised practice based project and a writing project which engages the student in contextual reading and writing around their creative practice and in critical thinking and reflection on their creative project. Where the creative practice project results in a body of new work, the process and outcome of the integrated writing project is a ‘body of text’ which can utilize a range of online technologies such as blogs, forums, social networking, web 2.0 and cloud-based computing; as well as more traditional forms such as journals and the traditional academic essay.
Doctor of Philosophy
CSU offers doctorates by research and thesis in its designated research areas. In Visual and Performing Arts these are Fine Arts and Drama.
The University’s regulations specify that Doctoral candidates will be required to undertake original and significant research on an approved topic. Candidates for the award of a Doctoral degree must demonstrate that their work is excellent both in theory and technique and has made an original and significant contribution to knowledge or understanding. The results of the research will be presented in a thesis which will be the principal basis of assessment for admission to the degree. However, Fine Arts and Drama candidates may also present the results of their research as non-print thesis, such as an exhibition or performance, if they elect to conduct their research through Creative Arts Practice.
