Student Facilities - Cornell University
Computer Lab
The computer lab in Tjaden Hall has about 20 Intel iMac computers. Each machine is equipped with the latest versions of various software, and the lab contains high-resolution scanners and several printers, including two large-format inkjet printers.
Darkrooms / Studios
Tjaden Hall houses several drawing and painting studios, fully renovated in 1998.
Multiple darkrooms support work with all camera formats up to 8x10 inches. Color darkrooms feature individual enlarging rooms and a 30 inch color print processor. A shooting studio includes seamless backgrounds, and tungsten and electronic flash lighting equipment. Professional medium format, large format and digital cameras are available to advanced students. Scanners, printers and video equipment are available in the computer lab.
Printmaking
The department has three complete studios for etching, lithography and silk-screen, as well as a printmaker’s darkroom. For etching, there are several presses, the largest of which has a bed size of 40x80 inches.
There are four lithography presses, and silk-screen facilities include a power washout unit and an exposure unit. The printmaking darkroom features the newest Nuarc 40-IKS Metal Halide Exposure Unit.
The Foundry
The Foundry, a historical landmark building, provides ample studio space for sculpture students, and a separate building behind the Foundry houses a complete bronze casting facility.
