Is Contemporary Art Predictable? |
Let me throw this one in to the pot...is it possible to predict the path of contemporary art?
Can we only really think is predictable ways? We know of linear and lateral thinking and often see lateral thinking as being something 'off the wall'. Yet lateral thinking also often uses a linear approach to be realised.
If this is the case then we can look at the work of Carl Andre and Doris Salcedo and deduce that these developments were just as predictable as ephemeral art and also the work of artists like Richard Long and Andy Goldsworthy.
As soon as we deconstruct and understand the ingredients contained within contemporary art (as Damien Hirst can demonstrate) then we can exploit them for our own practice. However, do we really want to continue to work this way? By doing so we are simply remaining safe within the comfort zone of normal thought rather than pushing the boundaries of true 'cutting edge' art. |

Transform...transcend...be subtly so and happy for all, not hurt, maim, kill, gain peace, for time is short, as death is our only true companion.
