Laure Prouvost at Tate Britain - Laure Prouvost uses the irresistible pull of the narrative tradition within film to seduce and entertain the viewer with witty and mesmerising juxtapositions of text and image. Yet implied storylines are quickly undermined by out-of-context comments and visuals that introduce a surreal dimension to the viewing experience.

Laure Prouvost’s films, which cut rapidly between terse texts and collaged clips, are sweetly intentioned flights of fancy. Tellingly, the artist once worked as an assistant to the late John Latham, the British Conceptualist, whose wide-ranging practice was engaged, intuitive and destructive. In 2010, a short residency at Latham’s south London home (which is now a public gallery devoted to the artist) resulted in several playful videos, each of which used domestic objects as springboards for a series of energetic fantasies.

Laure Prouvost at the ICA – 26 November 2010 - In contrast to Laure Prouvost’s sensuous work of complex racing sound, texts and images presented in Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2010, Charlie is a light, fresh and ironic short video composed around her grandfather, a conceptual artist.
