Installation at Gloucester Road Underground station
It's 100 years since the Piccadilly line first opened its gates, and to celebrate Platform for Art are embarking on their most ambitious project to date, with a six-month programme of 18 specially commissioned artworks in station platforms and entry halls from Heathrow to Cockfosters. Independent curator Gavin Wade has devised the project in conjunction with Platform for Art, and projects will draw upon the themes of Past, Present and Future, deriving inspiration from the travels of the 14th century explorer Marco Polo, as retold by Italo Calvino in his book Invisible Cities.
Heather and Ivan Morison will create a sound installation at Baron's Court, which will also be downloadable as a podcast, while, stationed one week per month at Arnos Grove in what they call the 'Passometer' (a small structure in the middle of the ticket hall), Tom and Simon Bloor are producing ephemera to be displayed and/or taken away by the public. Richard Woods will create an installation drawing on architectural correspondences between Green Park and Leicester Square stations, while Asia Alfasi will install giant cartoon strips at Piccadilly Circus and in the new ticket hall at King's Cross.
