ICE CREAM: A NEW SURVEY OF CONTEMPORARY ART

icacream.jpg

To mark the publication of Ice Cream, a global survey of the most significant emerging artists working today, Phaidon Press have joined forces with Ben & Jerry's to help cool down the art world over the summer.

Thousands of chunky, delicious Ben & Jerry's ice creams in strawberry and vanilla flavors will be distributed at four key art events in June in beautifully designed cups matching the iridescent cover of Ice Cream.

During the first two weeks of June, a customised ice cream van will be touring the 52nd International Art Exhibition of the Biennale di Venezia, Art 38 Basel, Documenta 12, and Skulptur Projekte Münster 07. A specially chosen team of 50 art students will position themselves at these major art events to celebrate what Phaidon is billing as 'the most exciting contemporary art book to be released this year'.

Ice Cream presents 100 of the most exciting artists working today, chosen by a team of 10 internationally renowned curators. This lavishly illustrated book acts as an expert guide to the art stars and trends of tomorrow. The internationally renowned curators who have selected the 100 artists are: Sergio Edelsztein who founded the Center for Contemporary Art in Tel Aviv in 1995; Jens Hoffmann, director of the CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts in San Francisco; Lisette Lagnado, who was the chief curator of the 27th Bienal de Sao Paulo in 2006; Midori Matsui, a critic and scholar who has written extensively on Japanese and Western art; Shamim Momim, associate curator at the Whitney in New York; Pi Li, a lecturer at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and curator at the Loft New Media Art Space in Beijing; Gloria Sutton, an independent curator and writer; Olesya Turkina who curated the Russian Pavilion of the Venice Biennale in 1999; Philippe Vergne, chief curator and deputy director of the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; and The Wrong Gallery, consisting of Maurizio Cattelan, Massimiliano Gioni and Ali Subotnik who curated the Berlin Biennale in 2006.
