Marcus Lanyon, Enjoy It While It Lasts, 2007
On 10 October Channel 4 and the Saatchi Gallery will open the 4 New Sensations exhibition in London, marking the culmination of the 4 New Sensations competition launched earlier this year for STUART artists. The exhibition will showcase the work of the 20 finalists from the 4 New Sensations competition, which was instigated in order to find and support the most imaginative and talented BA and MA students graduating in the UK this year. The winner of the competition will be decided by a public vote via the 4 New Sensations website. Voting opens on 9 October and will close at midnight on 14 October. The winner will be announced on 15 October.
The four finalists chosen by a panel of key figures in the art world are Mie Olise Kjaergaard, Marcus Lanyon, Sarah Maple and Mark Melvin. Each of these '4 New Sensations' was awarded a bursary by Channel 4 to make a new work of art. They have also had a 3 Minute Wonder film dedicated to the creation of their commissioned works, produced by Tiger Aspect which will be broadcast during the week of 8 October on both Channel 4 and Saatchi Online.
The judges for the competition were artist Antony Gormley, Tim Marlow, the broadcaster and Director of Exhibitions at White Cube gallery, Anita Zabludowicz, co-founder of the Zabludowicz Collection, Sadie Coles, founder of the London gallery Sadie Coles HQ, and Kevin Lygo, Channel 4's Director of Television and Content.
