AOIFE ROSENMEYER ON GABRIELA FRIDRIKSDOTTIR AT GALERIE BOB VAN ORSOUW, ZURICH

Having seen this exhibition, it's hard to shake the idea that Iceland is the home of determined hoydens whose relationship with their environment is visceral and passionate. Björk embodies this free spirit, and Gabríela Fridriksdóttir is a chip off the same block. Indeed the pair sometimes collaborates, Fridriksdóttir creating the album for Björk's 2002 greatest hits, while Björk was involved in Fridriksdóttir's film shown in the Icelandic pavilion in Venice in 2005. Since then, Fridriksdóttir has shown an installation in Zürich's Migros Museum, and this is her first solo show with Bob van Orsouw. gf3TINY.png

TAL R: THE SUM AT CAMDEN ARTS CENTRE, LONDON

Today Camden Arts Centre will open an exhibition of Tal R's large-scale paintings and an installation of over 200 etchings. Tal R challenges the fundamentals of painting using a fixed colour palette and set dimensions. In this exhibition, entitled 'The Sum', he uses seven colours - black, white, pink, green, red, yellow and brown - often applied directly from the tube. Breaking away from style and narrative, he focuses on graphic mark-making and collage, using characteristic blobs and small 'worms' of oil paint. talrTINY.jpg

DAVID FRYER SHOT BOTH DEAD AT TROLLEY GALLERY, LONDON

In his first solo show at Trolley Gallery David Fryer presents an examination of death, memory, pain and love. The installation of a heart-beating rock cast in resin pulsates in a room surrounded by drawings and paintings echoing a personal loss, whilst a wax heart drips slowly from above.
