CHANNEL 4 AND THE SAATCHI GALLERY ANNOUNCE THE FINALISTS OF NEW SENSATIONS, A COMPETITION TO FIND THE UK'S MOST CREATIVE YOUNG ARTISTIC TALENT
New Sensations was launched by Channel 4 and the Saatchi Gallery in 2007 to find the most imaginative and talented arts students graduating in the UK. The competition is open to students graduating from a BA or MA course in 2008. Each student who entered the competition had to submit work from their degree shows, with a short pitch about a new work they would like to make. The four finalists of the 2008 competition are:

Mark Davey
Mark Davey The Slade School of Fine Art, London
Davey makes ordinary elements of everyday life extraordinary - specifically lights, making them kiss and touch, move and swing or rub themselves over other materials. Using motors, the fragility and precarious repetition of the bulbs' movement is shown off, enticing a point of collapse, which never quite arrives.

Amy Moffat
Amy Moffat Wimbledon College of Art, London
Moffat works from early 20th century postcards, using specific colours to erase the original information contained in the cards. The documentary purpose of the postcard is turned into a sensory experience, creating a feeling of the familiar and uncanny. Her paintings become less about what they portray and more about the act of portrayal itself.

Robert Sherwood
Robert Sherwood Chelsea School of Art & Design, London
The central theme of Sherwood's paintings is the conflict between the organic forms of idealised landscapes and the artificiality of modern structures and technologies. Through different languages of paint application, he plays with perspective, leaving an awkward and disorientating view of the world.
Camilla Wills
Camilla Wills Wimbledon College of Art, London
Wills works with a process of appropriation that draws upon significant and aspirational imagery, such as movie logos, ancient boulders and rocket launchers. Objects and paintings are displayed together and used as props to produce a narrative, or narrative potential.
The four finalists were chosen by the following panel of judges: artist Yinka Shonibare; Maureen Paley, founder of the London gallery, Maureen Paley; the broadcaster and critic, Matthew Collings; and David Roberts, collector and founder of Gallery One One One in London.
Each of the four 'New Sensations' will be awarded a £1000 bursary to make a new work of art. They will also have a 3 Minute Wonder film made about them, produced by Tiger Aspect and broadcast on both Channel 4 and Saatchi Online in October.
Work by the four finalists and 16 other shortlisted graduates will be shown at the Truman Brewery on Brick Lane in London from 14-19 October, coinciding with the Frieze art fair. The competition will have two winners - one chosen by the judges, and one selected by public vote on the New Sensations website. Each winner will be awarded prize money of £3000 to support their future artistic endeavours. The two winners will be announced in October.
