The stand-out shows of the year for Alex Farquharson were Roger Hiorns' 'Seizure', Catherine Opie at the Guggenheim, Pablo Bronstein's show at Franco Noero in Turin, and a chance to experience the everyday as a psychotropic condition courtesy of Klaus Weber at Secession in Vienna (below). 
Among their favourite shows of the year, the co-director of Artangel James Lingwood picks Roni Horn's show at Hauser and Wirth, London; the writer and critic Michael Bracewell chooses the Bridget Riley retrospective (below) at the Musee d'art moderne de la ville de Paris; and Tot Taylor, co-founder of Rifelmaker, laments the lazy blockbuster and suggests that the very idea of an exhibition will have to change in 2009.
Among his favourite shows of the year, Jens Hoffman, director of the CCA Wattis in San Francisco, chooses Cathy Opie's photographs (below) at the Guggenheim, Tino Sehgal at the Fondazione Trussardi, the Gwangju Biennial curated by Okwui Enwesor and Prospect 1 Biennial in New Orleans. 
Among our New York contributor's favoruite cultural moments of the year are Olafur Eliasson's New York City Waterfalls, Paul Chan's '7 Lights' show at the New Museum, the Dark Fair orchestrated by Matthew Higgs and Gavin Brown, Isa Genzken's solo show at Hauser & Wirth in London, and Brandon Nastanski's first public project "Speakeasy," a quaint, dark mini bar behind a bookcase that revealed itself when someone pulled a certain book from the shelf that was attached to a rope. 
Among the most memorable shows of the year for the director of Hauser & Wirth in London are: Bharti Kher at Emmanuel Perrotin, Subodh Gupta at Galleria Continua, San Gimignano, Guy de Cointet (below) at the LA gallery Overduin and Kite, Yang Fudong at ShangArt, Shanghai, and Sarah Lucas at Sadie Coles in London.
Morgan Falconer, one of Saatchi Online's regular New York correspondents, discovers a genuine environmental poetic in 'After Nature' at the New Museum, while for Rebecca Geldard, our London correspondent, Gail Pickering's film 'Hungary! And Other Economies' made six-degrees-of-separation poetry out of cliched theatrical and unscripted human gestures. 
Vincent Honore picks his favourite exhibitions, artist projects and curatorial initiatives of the year, including Richard Serra's Monumenta (below) in Paris, Walead Beshty in LA, as well as Nina Beier and Marie Lund who were just about everywhere. 
Tate scores highly in Matthew Collings' list of the top shows of the year which includes German multi-media artist Heimo Zobernig at Tate St Ives, Mark Rothko at Tate Modern (below) and Francis Bacon at Tate Modern. 
Regular Saatchi Online magazine contributor Ana Finel Honigman chooses just one show - Dan Attoe at Peres Projects, Berlin; while Time Out London's visual arts editor Ossian Ward's favourite shows of the year include Loris Greaud at the Grand Palais, Paris, Robin Rhode at the Hayward, London and Peter Doig at Tate Britain, London (below). 
Among the photography books published this year, not to be missed are Mikhail Subotzky's 'Beaufort West' (below), Dayanita Singh's refreshignly intimate 'Sent a Letter', Sarah Moon's 5-volume visual memoir, Miroslav Tichy's obsession with the female form, and Anders Petersen's unflinching series of pictures entitled 'French Kiss'. 
Miltos Manetas shares his favourite web projects and recent discoveries of 2008, everything from reflective web diamonds to 50 Cents wannabes, while Anton Vidolke chooses three shows by Liam Gillick, which offered 'a glimpse into the future of art exhibitions' (below), and Paul Chan's series of lectures at the New Museum in New York. 
The stand-out show this year for Anthony Haden-Guest include Ilya Kabakov in Moscow, Louise Bourgeois at the New York Guggenheim (below), Tim Noble and Sue Webster at Deitch Projects, New York and Cao Fei at the Serpentine, London. 
Cornelia Parker loved the 'Duchamp, Man Ray, Picabia' show at Tate Modern so much that she went back three times - once for each of them; Richard Prince picks the Picasso show at the Grand Palais in Paris; and one of Michael Hoppen's favourite shows of the year was Francis Bacon at Tate Britain, London (below).
Jerry Saltz follows his defining moments of 2008 with his favourite New York shows of the year, including Tino Sehgal, Pipilotti Rist, Jeffrey Wells and Cindy Sherman - below), plus one stand-out event of 2008 - the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics - and a few worst shows of the year. 
Jerry Saltz looks back at some of the best shows and trends of 2008, from 'toy art' and major exhibitions by women to the best photography and street art shows. Top of the list, though, is Saltz's 'eye-opening moment' of the year, Urs Fischer's 38-by-16-foot crater at Gavin Brown's Enterprise (below). 
Our China correspondent looks back over the most memorable shows in Beijing in 2008, including the Huang Yong Ping retrospective (below) at the Ullens Center, solo shows by Li Zhanyang and Yin Xiuzhen, and Cai Guo Qiang's contribution to the Beijing Olympics.
