Only one image per work may be submitted unless the work is a freestanding sculpture in which case two images from different angles may be submitted. Entries must represent actual work(s) to be exhibited. The image of the work must not be manipulated in any way and must be of the work entered. The work shown on the image must be available, if shortlisted, for stage 2 of the competition and the exhibition itself.
The image(s) and completed entry form can be submitted via email or post. You can post your image(s) on CD or as 8”x 10” photographs to the Exhibition Office with a completed entry form. Digital images submitted vie email must not exceed 1MB in size per image. Digital images submitted by post on CD must not exceed 1MB in size per image. Photographic entries submitted by post will be converted to digital images for stage 1 judging. They will not be manipulated in any way.
The judging panel view all images entered during stage 1. This process is anonymous: jurors are not given the names of the artists but have access to information such as title, size and medium. There is no pre-selection stage prior to the stage 1 judging. As a result of this process, the jury then shortlists the works that are to progress through to stage 2.
Stage 2 - sending in shortlisted works for final judging
Those successful at stage one will be asked to deliver their work(s) either by courier to arrive at the Exhibition Office during the week of 21-25 July 2008 or to The Cork Street Gallery Sunday, 27 July or Monday 28 July 2008 between 11am-3pm (these must be the same works as seen in the image by the jury). Working together, the jury will then view and discuss each work individually to select the works for the final exhibition. They will also make the decision about prize-winners.
Cork Street Open Exhibition and the jurors reserve the right to accept or reject any piece for inclusion in the show. The organizers of Cork Street Open Exhibition reserve the right to refuse to exhibit any work it deems unacceptable due to poor craftsmanship or significant departure from photograph or digital representation.
Judges will include: An art enthusiast/collector from among the charity’s patrons, and at least three other established curators, artists or critics. The judge’s names and details will be posted on the website as they are confirmed.

Call for Entries- Circulation

|

Call For Entries Artists of All Mediums: Circulation
The strength and value in art is located not solely in its visuality, but also in its ability to circulate as an object, or at the most basic level- its grounds in a circulating idea.
Within a tiny droplet of blood, there are some 5 million red blood cells. It takes about 20 seconds for each of these red blood cells to circle the whole body. These red blood cells will each make approximately 250,000 round trips of the body before being replaced by another red blood cell.
USA Today has a daily circulation of 2,528,437. In one year, that amounts to 922,879,505 reads.
By the end of the Civil War, between one-third and one-half of all U.S. paper currency in circulation was counterfeit.
The ice age cycles were influenced by changes in ocean circulation arising from changes in the Earth’s orbit around the Sun.
Booksmart Studio is seeking submission of artist works that confront, explore, exploit, challenge, and investigate the modes, methods, and effects of circulation. Keeping in line with the diverse modes of circulation and dissemination, the exhibition is open to all mediums.

Interpreting Brooklyn - Open Call - $6,000 Stipend
http://www.brooklynhistory.org
|
|
Brooklyn Historical Society seeks proposals from artists and writers for participation in the upcoming project, Interpreting Brooklyn. Any individual or group working creatively in any media including, but not limited to, visual and installation artists; photographers; writers, composers, and playwrights; as well as dancers and performance artists are invited to submit a proposal to create work in response to our collections. The project will culminate in an exhibition in the Society’s galleries and a series of readings, performances, and programs, all scheduled to begin in October 2008. Thanks to a generous grant from the Getty Foundation, each participant (individual or group) will receive a $6,000 stipend. The deadline for proposals is February 8, 2008.
What are the details of the project?
BHS will invite ten participants (individuals or groups) to create new works that creatively interpret BHS’s collections. All artists and writers will attend workshops at which the BHS staff will provide guidance in exploring the depth and breadth of the collections, touring the museum galleries as well as the storage facilities where a number of works that have not been seen by the public in many years are located.
Ultimately the artists and writers will identify works in the collections that served as inspiration for original work they will create. Participants may create in collaboration or independently and are welcome to visit and work at the BHS whenever staff members are available. The exhibition and programs will include the artists’ and writers’ work along with the objects from BHS’s collections that inspired them.
Please visit Brooklyn Historical Society's website, www.brooklynhistory.org, to download a .PDF file with details of the open call and the submission process.

Sound As Sculpture, Call for Entry
http://www.rootdivision.org/030808.html
|
|
Call for Entry at Root Division, S.F.
Deadline: January 5, 2008
The curators are interested in showcasing original devices, processes, and appropriations used for making sound. We are soliciting submissions from various fields: music, visual art, performance and computing. We will select pieces in terms of their sculptural and conceptual qualities rather than musical viability. We are interested primarily in mechanical or material solutions whose formal qualities emerge from their sound making intention. The sculpture doesn't necessarily need to produce a sound but it should be implied that the object might once have or could produce a sound.
Questions of interest:
Can sound be implied in a sculptural object?
What are the conceptual components used to make a sound?
How do the sculptural qualities emerge from the sound function?
Is the sound present or absent? Is it precise, imprecise, or failed?
Is a specialist needed to use the device?
Does the viewer complete the sound object?
Can the public choose when and for how long to participate?
Is there poetic or sometimes destructive residue to mark the memory of a sound?
Does the device bridge different disciplines in interesting ways?
Deadline: January 5, 2008
Notification: January 15, 2008
Exhibition: March 2008
Please submit the following in the body of an email:
- 3-5 jpgs no larger than 800px
- URL for additional media (sound or video)
- A brief description of the work
- A current bio or resumé
Please do not attach text documents or media over 1MB.
You may submit completed work or proposal drawings along with exemplary recent work.
