Marilena Astrapellou previews the work of the six artists shortlisted for this year's DESTE Foundation Prize. The winner will be announced on 24 September at a ceremony in Nea Ionia in Greece, where throughout the summer you can see the work of the six artists, one of whom will be awarded a grant of 10,000 euros.

The 13th edition of Athen's contemporary art fair opened on Thursday with works by 86 artists from 18 different countries. Highlights include works by Nadja Argyropoulou, Konstantinos Rigos, Tassos Vrettos and Eirini Karayianopoulou's video 'Boys', proving that Greek artists can hold their own against their internationally acclaimed peers.

The elusive art of performance can boast a new home to display its fleetingness, as the city of Athens hosts the first ever international performance festival to be held in Greece. The blood-bathed actions of the Vienna Actionists, the raw aesthetics of Fluxus, and Joseph Beuys' ritualistic acts, are scheduled to be projected alongside the work of a wide array of Greek artists.
