The National charitable body The Mentoring & Befriending Foundation (MBF), in partnership with the Saatchi Gallery, has launched a major art exhibition as part of Anti Bullying Week (16th - 20th November 2009).
The children are peer mentors at their schools and play an important role in helping to combat bullying by being the eyes and ears of the playground. Since the start of term they (along with children from fifteen other schools from across England) have been creating hard-hitting anti-bullying messages through colourful images, statements and patterns designed onto elephant sculptures to form part of this unique national art project: THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM.
The children invited other schools from across the UK to take inspiration from the herd and vote for their favourite elephant. The winners' works will be on display at the Saatchi Gallery until 14 December. In first place was UNITY from Headlands School in Bridlington who will now go in exhibition with HARMONY from Featherstone Wood Primary, Stevenage, RAFIKI from Smitham Primary, Couldson and STOMP from Brady Primary with The Chafford School in Rainham.
Having made their London debut, the rest of the herd will now be making its way up north to go on display throughout Anti Bullying Week at the renowned Bolton Lads and Girls Club. |
