Saatchi Online prizes

BERT EELEN WINS NOVEMBER'S SAATCHI ONLINE STUDIO COMPETITION

The winner of the November Saatchi Online Studio competition is Bert Eelen. Saatchi Online contributor, Angela Marisol Roberts, comments: 'In the tradition of expressionist painters like Philip Guston, Bert Eelen's work renders the subtle psychology of the human face through layered textures, line sketches and blocks of intense colour.' We will announce the winner of the next Saatchi Online Studio competition on Thursday 24 December. The Saatchi Gallery will then donate £500 to a children's hospital around the world chosen by the winner.

BENKOSASIH WINS THE OCTOBER SAATCHI ONLINE STUDIO COMPETITION

The winner of the October Saatchi Online Studio competition is Benkosasih. Saatchi Online contributor, Rebecca Geldard, comments: 'Benkosasih's bold layering of digi-realm scenography and print-like motifs encourages multiple abstract and figurative painterly readings.' The Saatchi Gallery will donate £500 to a children's hospital around the world chosen by the winner.

BAHJA CHOY WINS SEPTEMBER'S SAATCHI ONLINE STUDIO COMPETITION

The winner of the September Saatchi Online Studio competition is Bahja Choy. The Saatchi Gallery will donate £500 to a children's hospital around the world chosen by the winner.

BARRY SELBY WINS AUGUST SAATCHI ONLINE STUDIO COMPETITION

The winner of the August Saatchi Online Studio competition is Barry Selby. Saatchi Online's Berlin correspondent, Ana Finel Honigman, comments: 'The 50th anniversary of Nasa has brought renewed marvel at our ability to visit the moon. But space still remains a glorious mystery. Dorset-born artist Barry Selby's simple and stunning "Far, far away" vision of a glowing star is an inspiring reminder that the universe remains a source of wonder.'

JUSTINE SHANTI WINS JULY SAATCHI ONLINE STUDIO COMPETITION

The winner of the July Saatchi Online Studio competition is Justine Shanti, chosen by Saatchi Online's China correspondent, Chris Moore. We will announce the winner of August's Saatchi Online Studio competition on Friday 28 August. The Saatchi Gallery will then donate £500 to a children's hospital around the world chosen by the winner.

PATRICIA J WINS JUNE SAATCHI ONLINE STUDIO COMPETITION

The winner of the June Saatchi Online Studio competition is Patricia J, from Oaklyn, New Jersey. Saatchi Online contributor, Bill Roberts, comments: "Patricia J.'s neatly-composed abstract images possess a
very satisfying formal economy, and in their oscillation between the geometric and biomorphic, they manage to convey a range of associations, from the claustrophobic spaces of 3D video game worlds,
to ominous microscopic medical diagrams." The Saatchi Gallery will donate £500 in the artist's name to a children's hospital of the winner's choice.

BOB R WILSON WINS MAY'S SAATCHI ONLINE STUDIO COMPETITION

The winner of the May Saatchi Online Studio competition is Bob R Wilson. Saatchi Online correspondent, Alix Rule, comments: "Elegant as they are, Bob L. Wilson's fuzzy neon colour fields don't seem really serious - they might just be an effect on the eyes (after too much time at the computer?). Meanwhile eyeballs themselves appear to have entered the field, and are bouncing around on their own terms." The Saatchi Gallery will donate £500 in the artist's name to a children's hospital of the winner's choice.

OLLIE O'LEARY WINS APRIL'S SAATCHI ONLINE STUDIO COMPETITION

The winner of the April Saatchi Online Studio competition is Ollie O'Leary. Saatchi Online correspondent, Ana Finel Honigman, comments: 'Dublin-based O'Leary's figures are brightly coloured with soft shading and a light touch, yet they convey a sharp sense of emotional grey areas and hard dramatic concerns.' The Saatchi Gallery will donate £500 in the artist's name to a children's hospital of the winner's choice. The winner of May's Saatchi Online Studio competition will be announced on Friday 29 May.

李奇安 WINS MARCH'S SAATCHI ONLINE STUDIO COMPETITION

The winner of the March Saatchi Online Studio competition is 李奇安 from China. Saatchi Online correspondent, Catherine Taft, comments: "I was struck by the spontaneity of this work, and the way in which the artist has managed to create online a sense of fluidity, characteristic of traditional Chinese painting'. The Saatchi Gallery will donate £500 in the artist's name to a children's hospital of the winner's choice.

CHANNEL 4 UNVEILS STEPHANIE IMBEAU'S BIG 4 PUBLIC ART COMMISSION

Channel 4 has unveiled a new public art commission outside its London headquarters. The work, by Saatchi Online artist Stephanie Imbeau, the winner of Channel 4's BIG4 public art competition, consists of hundreds of umbrellas which clad the Channel 4 logo. Imbeau says her aim is 'to give discarded umbrellas a second chance' and, as an American living in London, to recognise 'the enduring presence of umbrellas during all seasons'.

NOREDIN ART WINS FEBRUARY'S SAATCHI ONLINE STUDIO COMPETITION

The winner of the February Saatchi Online Studio competition is Noredin Art from the US. Saatchi Online correspondent, Kate Cary Evans, comments: "Against a wall background this tonally flat image of a figure references graffiti art but this image is far from the static stylised forms which usually appear on urban walls. The contrasting layers of rollered marks and fast scribbles give the form texture, complexity and an unexpected feeling of motion." The Saatchi Gallery will donate £500 in the artist's name to a children's hospital of the winner's choice.

PATRICIA J WINS YOUR STUDIO'S JANUARY COMPETITION

The winner of the January Saatchi Online Studio competition is Patricia J from the US. Alix Rule, Saatchi Online Berlin correspondent, comments: 'Patricia J's trim images are electrified by an alternating current. While it runs in one direction, her compositions appear as adept abstractions, nimble games in color and geometry. Flicked into the other, a window opens on the metaphysical vistas of de Chirico's Turin.' The Saatchi Gallery will donate £500 in the artist's name to a children's hospital of her choice.

PEDRO URIBE ECHEVERRIA WINS DECEMBER'S SAATCHI ONLINE STUDIO COMPETITION

The winner of the December Saatchi Online Studio competition is Pedro Uribe Echeverria from Paris. Saatchi Online correspondent, Ana Finel Honigman, comments: "Following the rules of old-fashion seduction, Pedro Uribe Echeverria leaves much to the imagination. Yet his velvety figures still appear like characters from classic film stills. Two women he draws could pass as Simone Signoret and Véra Clouzot from 'Les Diabolique'. With his cutting edge tools and loose lines, Uribe Echeverria evokes these iconic images of high intrigue, romantic tension and complex emotion." The Saatchi Gallery will donate £500 in the artist's name to a hospital of his choice.

LAURENCE GROUX WINS NOVEMBER SAATCHI ONLINE STUDIO COMPETITION

The winner of the November Saatchi Online Studio competition is Laurence Groux from New York. Bill Roberts, Saatchi Online contributor, comments: 'Laurence Groux's untitled sketch of bird forms emerging from a tangle of black lines has a decorative, improvisatory charm, as if Picasso or Miró had somehow got hold of a PC one afternoon.' The Saatchi Gallery will donate £500 in the artist's name to a children's hospital of his choice. Artists can now create works for the December Saatchi Online Studio competition, the winner of which will be announced on 22 December.

MARK DAVEY AND ROBERT SHERWOOD WIN THIS YEAR'S NEW SENSATIONS COMPETITION

PIXO HAMMER WINS OCTOBER'S SAATCHI ONLINE STUDIO COMPETITION

The winner of the October Saatchi Online Studio competition is Pixo Hammer from Toronto in Canada. Rebecca Geldard, Saatchi Online London correspondent, comments: 'I like the deft linear quality of Pixo Hammer's mutant Jellybaby society, which brings to mind the hiphop graphics of Keith Haring and the dystopic cartoon narratives of Mrzyk & Moriceau.' The Saatchi Gallery will donate £500 in the artist's name to a children's hospital of his choice.
