Vietnam, yet to make a huge impact on the contemporary art world, this week announced a major series of exhibitions and events to take place over the next two years under the overall title, 'Saigon Open City'. This two-year project is launched on Sunday with its first exhibition, 'Liberation', curated by the Thai curator Gridthiya Gaweewong and Thai artist Rirkrit Tiravanija. The exhibition examines the daily life of Vietnamese people during the Liberation period from 1946 to the present in the work of local and non-Vietnamese artists.
