THE FUTURE OF SOUND 2007

Remember the Human League? Remember Heaven 17? Of course you do. They're still around, for a start. Martyn Ware (below), founder of both, has become one of Britain's leading figures in electronic music. Now he's dragging 23 artists around the country on a mission to explore the future of sound. The trance-inducing echoes of Neolithic burial sites are as we speak clashing with celestial sound art installations. Someone's even doing a concert of the brain. Laura K Jones reports. MOBILE STUDIOS IN 2007

For those of you who feel you missed on some of the greatest art shows last year because of geography, the Mobile Studios are here to rescue you. About as fluid as an art organisation can be, the studios are self-described as 'an internationally networked pilot project of a mobile, autonomous production laboratory for young artists, musicians, performers and cultural programmers', and they certainly deliver the goods they promise - sort of like a non-profit wandering and ever-evolving art fair. Lupe Nunez-Fernandez chats with Ela Kagel on the past and future of the project. bel%20copy.jpg

Rokeby is opening an exhibition of new paintings by Sam Dargan on 3 January. Isolated middle-income men are depicted in stark and often sinister environments; empty interiors illuminated by a solitary lamp, windswept landscapes, dirty streets, the walls daubed with political graffiti or scenes which could be taken from frames of Zapruder's home movie. darganlifeisariotTINY.jpg
