| During this year's Frieze Week in London over 50 artists participated in a new fair where the work was not for sale but given away at the end of the fair on a first come first served basis. At the Free Art Fair, people were given the chance to own works by well-known and emerging artists who have exhibited at some of the world’s best known galleries such as the Tate, White Cube and Haunch of Venison.
More than a hundred people queued on the last day of the fair, many overnight. A painting by Matthew Collings was the first piece to go. The Free Art Fair was live on BBC News throughout the day, and on ITV London Tonight, the BBC World Service and Radio 5.
Here Saatchi Online TV's Sebastian Sharples's films the opening night of the Free Art Fair.

It seems almost surrealist this kind of event nowadays, but i aplaud! Wish i'd been there! Joao 30-10-2008
It is such an odd concept, but i think it is very generous to the attendees. To me it is a positive contrast to the other art-fairs that have happened. Balance is good. neil long 29-10-2008
