| Brazilian born Flávia Müller Medeiros completed her Associate Research Fine Art program at Goldsmiths College in 2004, before which she lived & practiced in Minneapolis.
Medeiros has since been selected and shown as part of Becks Futures 2006, Metropolis Rise, curated by Temporary Contemporary in Beijing/Shanghai, D.G. Art in Saint Tropez and the Moscow Centre of Arts, Russia. The artist also participated in ‘Temporary Studio’ at the ICA, London, curated by I.D.E.A.
In her most popular & acclaimed work ‘Failed, Emerging, Young,’ Medeiros created an ongoing compilation of interviews with established & emerging curators/artists curators with Lisa Le Feuvre, Gavin Wade & Nicolas Bourrlaud. This seminal work gives a snapshot of opinions & discourse surrounding contemporary art & artists this decade.
‘Inaugurate,’ shown at Becks Futures, takes a short extract from the film ‘Easy Rider,’ overlaying it with a car salesman’s rendition of the American constitution. The layers of visual meaning interspersed with the comic voice bring political and idealistic views into contrast and are again a poignant piece at this time.
Flávia Müller Medeiros has recently been selected for the Moscow Biennale 2007 and BEARSPACE is pleased to be exhibiting a solo exhibition of her new work entitled ‘Twang Twang Dreamland,’ during and after the Zoo Art Fair.
