| This painting, done in an impasto, impressionistic style has a really nice feel to it. The subject is simple - a mountain and a valley - but the soft pastel colors are warm and inviting, and the echo the sheltering effect of the mountain to the valley. Moreover, the focus, in this piece, is really on the brush work, which reminds me of some of the paintings of Van Gogh - simple but very effective. It is also interesting the way that perspective of size is lost: the mountain (or is it a hill) casts a shadow, but we see no sun. The trees are bare of leaves and appear tall, but they could be saplings. There is also no key to the true sizes of things in the way that the mountain and valley are painted.
