| In another in his series of paintings of the Li River, in Guangxi Province, Shen gives us yet another perspective of the beautiful landscapes that are part of this canyon of pillars carved by the river. The view is from a peak, looking down on the old flood plain from which the waters have receded, in the present day, but the now isolated canyon pillars on the plain tell the story of the past. We see two sailboats with big rectangular sails on the river, and it makes us think of ancient explorers charting some pristine prehistoric land. It is a very dramatic painting, and it is one of our favorites in the series. It will be dismantled and rolled for shipping.
