|There are a number of villages, in China, that canals, the most famous of which is Suzhou, north of Shanghai, called the Venice of China. Although Mu Yang Shen is more well-known for his sweeping outdoor scenes, much like Bierstadt's, he has done a study of the water village in four interesting and thoughtful paintings of which this is the first. In this painting, you can see more of an influence of the Impressionist pallet, with the way that the colors and brushstrokes are done on the water. It is a beautiful and peaceful work, and the subject matter could just as easily be in Europe as in China. It measures 100 cm by 80 cm, and it will be dismantled and rolled for shipping.
