| From the artist:
After about four months of spacious, miserable, cold and dark dog-unfriendly temporary housing in a brand new Abu Dhabi skyscraper, I got the keys to my “permanent” home in a sunny corner top apartment in a five floor building. I got my dog Heathcliff out of the kennel, set up my studio, and began to build a life.
I had hope, or at least had the formal requirements for it, but did feel pretty much of a mess. As always, caring for my dog did tremendous things for me. I learned to deal with Heathcliff’s movie-star popularity in my neighborhood; crowds gathered and cars stopped until he became old news for absolutely everyone (that took about five months). I learned to distinguish between ordinary and critical or hostile stares. I was acutely aware I was living about only 75 miles from Iran. Many of us were afraid of what Israel and the United States might do in the last days of the Bush administration. |
