Watercolour of an arch at Burgos, Spain, signed Robert Swan and dated 1958 lower left. Label verso Robert Swan (1888-1980) Burgos Spain The painting measures 27cm/10.5" x 36cm/14" Robert Swan was a portrait and a landscape painter. He studied at the Royal Academy Schools where he was awarded the Landseer Scholarship and the British Institute Scholarship in painting. He held a number of exhibitions between 1908-40 and is recorded as having exhibited 13 pictures at the Royal Academy, 8 at the Royal Society of British Artists and 2 at the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. Later in his career he became assistant art master at St Martins School of Art His works are held in the following: Victoria and Albert Museum Cowper and Newton Museum Chichester District Museum Durham University The Government art collection
