| Born in Ljubljana, Slovenia in 1979 Cibic Graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice, Italy in 2003. The artist has exhibited installation and video work in various exhibitions across Italy and Slovenia including: »Percorsi d`Arte«, Modern Gallery, Bologna, »Forme Umane«, Bevilaqua La Masa, Venice and worked as a visual arts tutor at the Venice Fine Art Academy.
Jasmina has been living in London since 2003, and was awarded a grant from the Ljubljana city council for the Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art at Goldsmiths College in London, where she graduated from the MA in Fine Art at the same College in 2006.
Cibic’s work reconsiders the current state of cultural re-branding of Eastern Europe where the political past is short circuted and substituted by notions of re-invented myths and faux ethnic chic. The focus of Cibic’s engagement is not the packaged Exotic based on geo-political reality of a territory, but the Exotic (non) defined in terms of its spatial and temporal factuality. Her performative work poses a parallel to the existing territorial marking of the traveller (spectator) and creates an architectonical framework which interrupts the normal flow of events and enhances the dialogue with the casual passer-by (a faux tourist). Space hybridisation takes place through site-specific interventions, which through employment of personal poetics take on broader political emancipation.
